Our Mission

The Mu Lambda chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded at SIU in 1993 and chartered in 1995. In just a few years, this dynamic group of men, who started the fraternity from scratch, had eclipsed most SIU fraternities and joined the top echelon of Greek organizations. Sigma Nu was a top-three fraternity in size, academic achievement, athletic performance, campus leadership and social reputation. 1993 to 1998 were the golden years of Sigma Nu at SIU.

In 1999, a series of setbacks related to housing and membership put the chapter on a track of decline from which it has never recovered. After several disappointing starts and stops between 1999 and 2008, Sigma Nu alumni have taken massive and immediate action to restore their fraternity to its once prestigious position at SIU. At the conclusion of the spring 2008 semester, the chapter membership was carefully evaluated and intentionally trimmed down to just two remaining undergraduate members. It is from this position that Sigma Nu is effectively re-launching as an organization at SIU.

From this clean slate, Sigma Nu alumni will re-build the fraternity by selecting only the highest quality men. An organization is only as good as its members. To be the best you must recruit the best. With these high standards guiding us, Sigma Nu alumni intend to restore the prestige and influence we once knew at SIU. The vision is greatness.
